SEO and subdomains

(Keywords have been replaced with "big oak trees") Let's say for instance I am wanting to build a minisite about "big oak trees". BigOakTrees.com is taken, but OakTrees.com is available. Would I be able to rank very well for "big oak trees" if I purchased OakTrees.com and added the subdomain...
