downloading torrents slow internet speed

hey people, i have a question that has been boggling my mind for some time now...i download torrents and i use a program called utorrent.. i run 6mb service on my internet but when im downloading it drops my internet speed down to below 1.5mbs is there anything i can do to make it so that it doesnt...
