subprocess.call() use output of the external program

Hi everyone I am using subprocess module. I called external script by using module subprocess. Now I want to use the output of the external program back in python script. Can anyone help me on this? any good tutorial? I tried doug hellmans (http://blog.doughellmann.com) blog
