Affiliate code: Noob Question

Hi, I'm new to affiliate marketing; but not the web nor CPC/PPC ads. I'd like to finally step into affiliate marketing by adding a banner on my existing site properties. I understand on how to insert the given Code, but what's the Tracking Link for - where does that go, or do?
