Cloud computing, often referred to as simply “the cloud,” is the delivery of on-demand computing resources — everything from applications to data centers — over the internet on a pay-for-use basis.

Elastic resources — Scale up or down quickly and easily to meet demand
Metered service so you only pay for what you use
Self service — All the IT resources you need with self-service access

Cloud computing is a type of highly redundant virtualized environments. Think like a VPS but with extra redundancy.

Additionally, cloud hosting is typically more scalable than VPS. It is generally built on large dedicated servers and file storage systems.

If you use the network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data, rather than a local server or a personal computer it is called cloud hosting. It is quite good as a host, but you should use disaster recovery business continuity tools so that you will not loose your data at the time of disaster.
